Auto repair in the United States is split between independent shops, dealership service departments and national chains. Independents handle most routine work (oil changes, brakes, tune-ups, check-engine diagnostics) at lower labor rates and often specialize in one make or in imports; dealers keep factory tools, software and warranty authority; chains sell speed and standard pricing on maintenance items. Most shops charge a diagnostic fee, credited toward the repair if you go ahead, and quote parts and labor separately. Certification matters: look for ASE-certified technicians and, in many states, a state repair license posted at the counter. Written estimates are required by law in most states before work begins, and you are entitled to your old parts if you ask.
The business lists hours on 6 days of the week. The most common schedule is 7:30 am–6:30 pm. It is closed on Sunday. Scarsdale is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Scarsdale is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across New York's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Prior to a long family road trip, my wife made an appointment to have the tires checked on our F-150 Super Crew XLT. At the shop, John evaluated the condition of our truck tires. While seated in the waiting area, I recognized a general level of friendly conduct among the other employees with whom I communicated at the garage. That means a lot to me, since such conduct is rare in New York. They were all speaking English too. We agreed to have all four tires replaced as well as a four wheel alignment. It was necessary for me to leave the Ford at the shop. They called me later that same day when the truck was ready. The Cooper tires looked great. There’s an American flag conspicuously flying at this place of business. Additionally, there were patriotic red, white and blue “God Bless America” motifs beside the bench on the sidewalk out front. As a former Marine rifleman living through the current anti-American plague, that flag and those pro-American displays were comforting to see.

Joe and the team at Sal’s is amazing. I got an engine repaired and when engine had an issue again, the team was great in honoring the warranty and fixed all issues for no extra charge. They also dropped the car at my house to not inconvenience me. All in all, a great experience and would highly recommend.

Sal’s was great! Took it in without an appointment because my car died. They were quick to assess the situation and fix it while I waited, even though they were obviously very busy. Will definitely be back again for all my car issues. Professional, knowledgeable, honest, efficient, what more could you want?!

After being quoted an insane $2,000 by Platinum Buick GMC to replace my tire sensors, I came to Sal’s Auto Mechanic for a second opinion and I’m so glad I did. They were quick, thorough, honest, and completed the service for a fraction of the price. The team was incredibly attentive, kind, and really took care of me throughout the whole process. It’s hard to find mechanics you can truly trust, but Sal’s definitely earned my business going forward. Highly recommend to anyone looking for fair pricing and great customer service!

I live in California, and my daughter lives in New York. We chose Sal's Auto Service because of the quality and knowledge of the work and piece of mind that we were going to get the exact repair needed for her car. The work was completed ahead of schedule and the owner Joe even drove my daughter to the train station. I would, and we are going to use Sal's again. I highly recommend !! Wayne Leone
